  3. Information Center (ERIC) Redesign

  5. The 16 clearinghouses acquire, review and disseminate documents,
  6. prepare indexes and abstracts which are entered into the ERIC
  7. database.  Each clearinghouse also prepares periodic reports,
  8. digests, and other documents that cover research in the areas
  9. assigned to the clearinghouse.  The clearinghouse configuration
  10. follows:

  12. Adult, Career, and Vocational Education.  Covers adult,
  13. continuing, career and vocational educational and related areas
  14. such as proprietary schools.  Includes all levels of adult and
  15. continuing education from basic literacy training through
  16. professional skill upgrading; vocational and technical education
  17. covering all service areas for secondary, postsecondary, and
  18. adult populations; career education and career development
  19. programs for all ages and populations in educational,
  20. institutional commercial, and industrial settings.

  22. Counseling and Personnel.  Covers preparation, practice, and
  23. supervision of counselors at all educational levels and in all
  24. settings; theoretical development of counseling and guidance;
  25. personnel procedures such as testing and interviewing and the
  26. analysis and dissemination of the resultant information; group
  27. work and case work; nature of pupil, student, and adult
  28. characteristics; personnel workers and their relation to career
  29. planning, family consultations and student orientation
  30. activities.

  32. Educational Management.  Covers leadership, management, finance,
  33. governance, and structure of public and private secondary
  34. schools.  Includes schools, school districts, and other
  35. educational agencies with emphasis on training, practice and
  36. theory of administration, inservice and preservice preparation of
  37. administrators; methods and varieties of organizations;
  38. organizational change and finance; and research on the components
  39. of effective schooling.

  41. Elementary and Early Childhood Education.  Covers physical,
  42. cognitive, social, educational and cultural development of
  43. children from birth through early adolescence.  Includes learning
  44. theory, research and practice related to the development of young
  45. children.

  47. Handicapped and Gifted Children.  Covers education and
  48. development of the special child, including prevention,
  49. identification, assessment, intervention and enrichment. 
  50. Includes areas relevant to both handicapped and gifted
  51. populations including early childhood education, curriculum,
  52. teaching methods, administration, career education, teacher
  53. preparation, legislative and judicial requirements, program
  54. development and evaluation, and related services.
